Red Still Life

Oil paint on canvas paper

Assigned simply to create an engaging still life, I arranged a configuration of commonplace yet visually interesting objects from my dorm, united of course by their red hue. In composing, I tried to create dynamic diagonals while maintaining a pleasing balance of color and detail. In the rendering process, the main goal was to express technical skill and a complex understanding of lighting, forms in space, and surface textures. Sadly, the canvas paper’s texture detracts from the work since it is at such a small scale.
