Rainbow River Swimming Hole
2022
6” x 8”
Gouache, acryla-gouache, acrylics, and colored pencils on watercolor paper
Part of a series of personal works, this painting was a turning point in the development of my current visual style. I attempted to simplify the foliage in a playful and energetic manner while maintaining legibility and the notions of form and depth. This was really an exercise in building a personal shorthand for extremely complicated shapes such as those found in the shadows and highlights of dense plant life and rippling water.
