Painting Final

Oil paint on canvas glued to triangular pieces of Masonite

For the final assignment of my painting class, we were given a month, and the only requirement was size. I chose to create a piece that would evolve each week. Attempting to capture my semester in a “quilted” painting, I broke my surface into 32 moveable triangles that I would paint on and rearrange four times over the month. The layers of paint were people, spaces, shapes, and finishing touches, all of which were important or recurring in my semester. I experimented with loose, painterly application, new mediums to facilitate transparency, and bold, graphic shapes. The end result is partially fractured, partially legible, and packed with details.
