Boughs

Ink, gouache, acryla-gouache, and acrylic on watercolor paper

Another piece from my personal series, this was an experimentation with layering ink to try to evoke light and texture. The foliage was created through the succession of various hues of green followed by a pass of nearly white acryla-gouache. Along with a few more passes with translucent combinations of various water-based paints, I used a fountain pen to evoke bark texture, twigs, and some climbing ivy. The process of this work was a lot of push and pull with extensive dry time in between each pass. I was also simply drawn to the complexity of this tree as a subject on such a busy background.
